There are moments when one has been working too hard, its the fourth coffee of the night and you are seeing pixels. Although it may not be helpful, we have found that you can take it a step further and populate your life away from the screen with pixels too. Not being able to get away from those pesky pixels is a scary thought, but many of these items can add a fresh and funky splash of colour in any room!

1.Pixel Confetti Shelf System from Funktion Alley

2. It is the perfect marriage between design and ecology – an energy saving lightbulb that changes its shape according to your perspective of it. The sculptural form was designed right here in London’s Shoreditch, by a design team consisting of Michael-George Hemus, Nicolas Roope, and Sam Wilkinson.

‘It’s strange that the lightbulb, an object synonymous with ideas, has been for so long almost entirely absent of imagination,’ Nicolas Roope.

For us, that the form is dependant upon viewpoint is a great representation of the creative design process. The design solution to any brief evolves according to the perspective of both designer and client!

www.plumen.com

With a design team that studied graphic design at Central St Martins, we most definitely appreciate well designed books. In this case, we are talking specifically about the craft of bookbinding, and the cover of a book. Kate Holland, whilst respecting the traditional craft has pushed it forward to become a contemporary art form that conceptualises the story within.

The book covers she creates clearly show a skills set in both design and the craft. Whether it is intricate leatherwork or a clever use of hot foiling techniques, there is a unique beauty in every cover.

If you are a book lover, we would suggest you drop as many hints as possible to persuade someone to have a bespoke book made for you!

Kate Holland Books

We all know and love Wallace & Gromit’s Cracking Contraptions, but we wonder how many know of the illustrator William Heath Robinson? These comic illustrations, drawn using simple lines with black and white shading, they stand out for depicting human quirkiness in a most playful manner. It is a case of the most complex machine to facilitate the simplest human action.

As designers and developers sometimes the most extravagant ideas can boil down to a genius solution to a project. Robinsons illustrations give you an insight into the sometimes (….hmmm all the time) weird and wonderful creatives mind on a day to day basis. Thinking out loud… sometimes taking the long way round can put you in a more interesting space than always taking the shortcut! Think about it!
